Residential Air Duct Cleaning

Air Duct Cleaning

You’d be amazed at what you might find hidden in an HVAC system! New construction homes are notorious for drywall dust, debris, nails and even garbage being shoved down the vents. Kids toys, hair, dead skin, pet dander, dirt, lint, food crumbs, cooking oils, smoke particles and someone’s hidden treasures may be lurking below and you might not even know it. Over time, these things can begin to cause allergies, increased dust, reduced airflow, increased energy bills and even potential damage to your HVAC system. Schedule your consultation today!

Air Duct Cleaning FAQs

Our Air Duct Cleaning Process

  • 1: Walk-Thru

Upon arrival we'll inspect your HVAC system, make sure we have access to everything, explain our process & what to expect, finalize the quote and schedule approved cleaning.

  • 2: Prepare the System

    1) An 8” or 12” access hole is cut into the main supply line near the plenum.

    2) Block Off the A-Coil to ensure no dust or debris falls into the coil compartment.

    3) An 8” or 12” access is made in the return trunk line near the HVAC system.

    4) The furnace filter is removed, wrapped in plastic, and reinstalled to separate the supply and return sides of the system.

    5) Remove the Blower for later cleaning.

  • 3: Clean the Supply Branch & Main Trunk

    6) The flex duct from our powerful negative air machine is attached to the supply side of the furnace. (Our negative air machine is equipped with a HEPA filter so we will not be reintroducing dust into your home as we clean.)

    7) Now that the system is running and under negative pressure, we’ll go to each register and seal them off with plastic sheets, foam blocks or cardboard. This will increase your air velocity.

    8) Starting from the furthest register, we will clean each branch line by using compressed air cleaning tools, and/or duct brushes to loosen debris to the main trunk line. The process is then repeated at each register.

    9) Once all the branch lines have been cleaned, we then clean out the main trunk line. All dust and debris are pushed to and captured by our Air Duct Cleaning HEPA Filter System.

  • 4: Clean the Return Branches & Return Trunk

    10) The flex duct from our powerful negative air machine is attached to the return side of the furnace.

    11) Now that the system is running and under negative pressure, we’ll go to each register and seal them off with plastic sheets, foam blocks or cardboard. This will increase your air velocity.

    12) Starting from the furthest register, we clean each branch line by using compressed air cleaning tools, and/or duct brushes to loosen debris to the main trunk line. The process is then repeated at each register.

    13) Once all the branch lines have been cleaned, we’ll clean out the main trunk line. All dust and debris are pushed to and captured by our Air Duct Cleaning HEPA Filter System.

  • 5: Clean the A-Coil, Blower & Furnace

    1) The Blower compartment and inside the front of the furnace will be contact-cleaned by vacuuming and wiping down any soiled areas.

    2) Provided we have access, the Blower will be removed and cleaned. Standard cleaning would be to blow it out with compressed air. Heavy buildup may require taking it apart and washing the main components.

    3) Provided we have access, the A-coil will be cleaned. The standard cleaning would be to blow compressed air into the coil compartment while under negative air to remove dust and debris. For more aggressive cleaning a degreaser may be used to dislodge build up.

    4) Once the system has been thoroughly cleaned, we will reseal all access holes with metal patches, then reinstall all registers.

    5) Install a fresh new filter. (If it’s a standard size that we carry, we can provide the filter. Otherwise the client will provide a new filter.)

  • 6: Fog with Sanitizer* (This is an Optional, Add-on Service)

After the system has been cleaned, an EPA approved air duct sanitizer/deodorizer may be applied. While the system is still under negative pressure, the sanitizer is sprayed into each register with an Ultra Low Volume (ULV) Fogger.

*This is an optional, add-on cost, and is only done by request of the client.*

  • 7: Dryer Vent Cleaning* (This is an Optional, Add-on Service)

Dryer vents are cleaned using high pressure, compressed air to blast loose lint, debris, and nests. This important service protects your home from fires, smoke and pollutants. It reduces energy costs allowing dryers to run more efficiently, last longer, and dry clothes faster.

*This is an optional, add-on cost, and is only done by request of the client.*

**This is not offered as a stand-alone service, but only as an add-on to a full service cleaning.**

***At this point we can only offer dryer vent cleaning for ground level openings. ***

Air Duct Cleaning FAQs

Got questions? We've got answers! Explore our FAQs to find quick solutions to common questions about our services, policies, and more.

  • What are the benefits of air duct cleaning?

Air duct cleaning improves indoor air quality by removing dust, allergens, and other pollutants trapped in the ductwork. This can lead to better respiratory health, reduced allergy symptoms, and a cleaner living environment. Additionally, clean air ducts can enhance HVAC system efficiency, potentially lowering energy bills.

  • How Often Should I have my furnace & air ducts cleaned?

Air duct cleaning frequency depends on various factors such as the size of your home, the number of occupants, and whether there are pets present. To start fresh, you should always have your furnace & air ducts cleaned when you buy a new or used home. After that, it’s typically recommended to have your air ducts cleaned every 3 to 5 years. However, if you notice excessive dust buildup, excessive debris in the furnace filter, or allergies worsening, it might be time for a cleaning sooner.

  • Does my new construction home need air duct cleaning?

You’d be surprised what may be found in the ducts of a new construction home. First and foremost, drywall dust, then construction debris, nails and even garbage may have been swept down the openings. It’s important that your new furnace starts out clean so it lasts longer. Have us take a look and we’ll show you what’s inside!

  • Do I need a cleaning if I change my filters regularly?

While changing air filters regularly is essential for maintaining HVAC system efficiency, it doesn't completely eliminate the need for air duct cleaning. Filters can capture larger particles, but smaller particles and contaminants can still accumulate in the ductwork over time. Professional air duct cleaning ensures thorough removal of these accumulated pollutants, promoting cleaner air circulation throughout your home.

  • What's the air duct cleaning process?

During air duct cleaning, our trained technicians use specialized equipment to dislodge and remove accumulated debris and contaminants from the ductwork. This typically involves a combination of brushing, vacuuming, and/or compressed air to thoroughly clean the ducts. The duration of the process varies depending on factors such as the size of the home and the level of contamination but typically ranges from 3 to 5 hours for a standard residential property.

  • How do I prepare for my Air Duct Cleaning?

    1) Please schedule any other contractors outside of our cleaning time.

    2) Please schedule driveway sealing/coating for AFTER we’ve been there to clean.

    3) Clear all walkways, stairs and hallways so we can move equipment safely throughout.

    4) Clear around all vent openings so we have access to them.

    5) Clear around the furnace so we have access to it.

  • How long does the cleaning process take?

The average residential cleaning takes 3-5 hours for a full duct cleaning.

  • Can I be there during the air duct cleaning?

You can be there, just know that we will be in and out of each vented room repeatedly for the 3-5 hours that we are there, so please have kids and pets either off-site or away from our work area for the entire time we are there.

  • What if my vent covers are painted and stuck to the wall?

We will do our best to remove these painted-on vent covers cautiously, or try to find an alternative way to access that vent to avoid paint peeling/chipping. But please note that there may be a need for paint touchups by the homeowner when we are done if the vents are painted to the wall.

  • Is your company certified to clean air ducts?

Yes, we are certified through www.quadca.com and they have a very high standard of process, procedure, and equipment used in the cleaning process.
